KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

The Kindergarten Program

Little Star Montessori offers an advanced kindergarten program. This is for children aged 5-6 years and is a culmination of the first years at Montessori Preschool. The children are taught to connect phonetic sounds to form simple words. This eventually leads to reading words phonetically – and what a thrill it is for children to discover they can read! We also offer a variety of age appropriate ‘Reading Books’, ‘Reading Games’, ‘Reading Boxes’ and ‘Flashcards’ in our Reading Program. Writing words, spelling them out, simple sentence formation and eventually writing short compositions or stories makes our program enjoyable, interesting and educational. Reading and writing are also connected to other areas in our classroom, for example in geography studies, story-time, and science. In Math, we introduce addition, subtraction, multiplication and division work that the children find fascinating to do.

The kindergarten clan enjoys special field trips as well that are separate from preschool children. A wide variety of ideas, stories, topics and materials are offered to enrich their kindergarten experience further. Special arts & crafts, needlework, embroidery, clay-work, drama, along with music, French and Spanish is offered.

At 6 years of age when the kindergarten class is ready to graduate to grade 1 they have undeniably learnt, absorbed and experienced a wide variety of knowledge, ideas and materials. Indeed the saying, the excitement of learning; all children have it; Montessori children keep it, rings very true.
